SUMMARY: 

Responsible for acquiring packaging materials, supplies and services and placing purchase orders for goods used in the manufacturing of our products. Coordinates with other departments to maintain inventory at planned levels. Reviews opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials offered. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned as needed.

• Review and release purchase orders to maintain adequate levels of packaging inventory to allow for on-time completion of manufacturing requirements.
• Maintain planning parameters based on usage to maximize efficiencies and minimize inventories.
• Provide timely forecasts to strategic suppliers in order to strengthen supplier partnerships.
• Conduct routine follow up on past due and current purchase orders to support production schedules.
• Expedite or de-expedite open purchase orders to support production schedule changes.
• Work with and purchase from key International Suppliers for a planned-on time delivery.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Inventory Management the phase in/phase out of product to minimize obsolete inventory and ensure new product availability.
• Research material availability for abnormal demand. 
• Handle replacement of defective or rejected material and returns of poor-quality parts thru Supplier Situation procedure.
• Works to lean out supply process by working with suppliers to reduce lead times and minimum buys.
• Supports Packaging Commodity Manager in all aspects of supplier management and supplier improvement programs.
• Responds to questions regarding component availability from both suppliers and production employees.
• Collects, measures and reports data on supplier performance in terms of on-time delivery to schedule and conformance to specification.
• Interact with suppliers in key meetings either one on one or with a Packaging Commodity Manager.
• Develop plans with Packaging Commodity Manager to use up slow moving or obsolete inventory.
• Record new materials into inventory item master as required.
• Update inventory item master as required.
• Works alongside Inventory teams to ensure accuracy of raw materials on hand.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor Degree required
• Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a material planner in manufacturing environment

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Knowledgeable of planning systems and manufacturing processes
• Experience interacting with suppliers
• Strong PC and software skills. (Excel, Word, etc.)
• Sense of urgency in fast paced environment
• Must have the ability to become familiar with the Plant Operations and Warehouse Inventory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

•  Ability to move about the production facilities with no limitations.
• Lift 50 lbs.
